Due to the fact that there had been
an influx of new members during the first half of 2010 and the lack of space
in the temporary building we were using for our meetings we regrettably had
to suspend new membership for a while.
We are now pleased to announce that we are
again accepting new members.
Any person who had made enquiries during this time
should email our facilitator,
Beverley Asmus if still interested in becoming a member.
Information for New and Intending Members:
- Carindale Writers' Group meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday each
month (from 10 am till 1 pm) in Holland Park Library, 81 Seville Road,
Holland Park.
- Carindale Writers Group is a non profit organisation and exists for the
sole purpose as a support group for writers. It does not provide a
structured course for beginning writers.
- Writers serious about gaining publication are invited to attend the
meetings, which are held at the Carindale library meeting room on the
second and fourth Thursday of each month.
- The primary activity is a critique group, where writers are encouraged
to share their writing skills by either reading out loud or by providing
respectful feedback to other writers.
- All critiques should be given in the spirit of support and encouragement
and all writers are encouraged to accept critiques as such.
- Critiques are not personal. They relate to the writing only. Any
unfavourable critique is not intended to destroy confidence in your
abilities; it is purely to help you identify weak points requiring
attention.
- The meetings are meant to be friendly, courteous and accepting of
diverse cultures, religions and political persuasions. All discussions
during the meeting should be conducted in a respectful manner and have
literary relevance.
Costs of belonging to Carindale Writers' Group
Carindale Writers Group functions as a volunteer group with elections held
in June for the positions of coordinator, treasurer and librarian. No-one is
paid for their services and contributions are necessary to pay for membership
fees to affiliate groups, website hosting, resource books and to help defray
the costs of internet services, postal and miscellaneous costs associated with
running the Group efficiently.
Consequently, a $12 annual payment is collected at the beginning of each
year, or at time of joining. There is also a collection taken at each meeting
of $3 per person, for which you receive morning tea, consisting of coffee, tea
and biscuits.
When you join Carindale Writers' Group you are entitled to add your profile
to our website and are accorded your personal page on our website, which can
be used to promote your writing skills.
You automatically become a member of the Queensland Writers Centre and the
Fellowship of Writers Queensland, and are entitled to the benefit of their
services and meetings. (Group discounts apply for seminars and workshops
delivered by the Queensland Writer's Centre.)
You will receive an e-copy of Queensland Writers Centre's monthly magazine
"Writing Queensland", either to your email address, or accessed
through our website. You will be able to borrow from our extensive library of
self help books. You will be invited to submit your writing to any future
anthologies.
