Hazel Barker was born in Burma. She migrated to Perth over thirty years ago, and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Western Australia. She moved to Canberra in 1971, and married Colin who gives her every encouragement in her writing.

She has since obtained her Diploma in Education at the University of New England and taught at high schools for over a quarter of a century. Hazel has devoted her time to writing since her early retirement.

Her book, Where’s Home Mummy? A Migrant’s Story, was published in 2004, and is available at the Brisbane, Redland and the Gold Coast City Council libraries. Hazel has just completed her manuscript, The Soprano, and is currently working on her memoirs.

Besides writing, she loves reading, gardening, bushwalking, and attending classical opera.
