The topic for this task
was History of the World. See below for some of the
responses.
History of the World by
Sandy Green
It was a matter of survival - all day every day, looking for food to stay
alive. Weary of hunting beasts and gathering fruits, humans soon learned
to build fences and plant seeds. Specialization began, so trading and
money evolved. The need for records and rules followed. Leaders and
decision makers emerged and institutions were founded. Efficiency and
technology allowed for leisure. Art, entertainment and literature
reinforced cultural identity. There was time to philosophize about life and
death. Humans created gods and great religious institutions exerted
pressure. Intolerance, suspicion, wars and organized murder surfaced.
Again it is a matter of survival.

Billions of earth-years ago, soul-force stirred our
sea-cauldron, mixing its brew with the essence of life. Consciousness wove its way
into myriads of life-forms to express intelligence and creativity, inner
richness and abundance. Ancient earth rocks now reveal their secrets:
that two-hundred and fifty million years ago a huge meteorite caused a mass extinction lasting eighty thousand years. Earth
rediscovered and reclaimed its beauty until another cycle of destruction ended the reign of the dinosaurs sixty-five million years
ago. The darkness dissipated, light shone through into another
period of renewal and celebration. Then man struggled out of the
swamp.
History of the World by Ed McMahon
He eased his body into the narrow split in the rock face at
1000 metres above sea level and in a rugged part of the North
Italian Dolomite mountains, the small aperture had remained
undiscovered.
After inching his way for several metres he came across a
large gloomy cavern. He lit a lantern and held it
high. There above him was a multi-banded slab that
exhibited every geological period since the earth was formed.
And so, as clear as a page in a book, Mario Franzolin,
amateur fossil collector, excitedly gazed upon and read the
first natural hard copy version of the history of the world.
