Debby Raymond

A letter she wrote when she was twelve to an uncle in Nigeria never reached him because of the Nigerian-Biafran war in the late 1960s. Amazingly, the letter was returned to her three years later. Reading what she had written years earlier brought home to her the impact of the written word and its ability to record a snapshot in time. She has been writing ever since.

Debby was born and grew up in Ireland. She lived for many years with her husband and children in England and Hong Kong before moving to Australia in 1995 where she happily took on Australian citizenship.

The tug of her roots is strong. She has been writing memoir and historical fiction for years and has even dabbled with science fiction. She enjoys playing with words, timing and metre. She occasionally writes ditties, which she dares not call poems. Sometimes she even gets philosophical with social commentary.

She passed her recent editing and publishing studies with High Distinction, and is happy to have assisted with the editing of Encounters, published by Carindale Writers Group in 2016.

Publications

Debby has contributed to the following Carindale Writers’ Group anthologies: The Great Aussie Jigsaw, Allsorts of Allshorts, Seasons and Encounters.
