GOOD WRITING

GOOD WRITING - A good story should have the following elements:
Character
Plot
Location
Action
Resolution.

GOOD WRITING is written for a purpose, is well edited, uses vivid description, has the reader in mind.

What is the purpose for your writing?
Is your work well edited ?
Did you plug the plot holes?
Lay it out properly?
Read the rules?

GOOD WRITING makes you feel like you're on the spot.

GOOD WRITING makes the reader feels like a sensory participant when the writing appeals to the senses.

Here’s an example from Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen

'Sit,’ said Grady. ‘Eat. if you’re thinking of clearing out, it may be a while before you see food again.’
That moment, the music screeched to a halt. There was an ungodly collision of brass, reed, and percussion—trombones and piccolos skidded into cacophony, a tuba farted, and the hollow clang of a cymbal wavered out of the big top, over our heads and into oblivion.
Grady froze, crouched over his burger with his pinkies extended and his lips spread wide.

Character description begins in the writer's imagination and ends in the reader's mind.

Pick a picture from a magazine, any picture of a person, preferably someone you don’t know.
Describe this character. Give them a back story. Use it in your work.

GOOD WRITING starts with you.
Keep writing. Keep learning!
