Geoff Covey

Geoff Covey is a chemical engineer who arrived in Australia from England in 1974 to do his PhD and
is still here! In addition to his PhD he got half way through an arts degree only to abandon it to qualify as a patent attorney. After working for several large companies and spending some years lecturing and researching at University of Melbourne, he formed his own engineering consultancy twenty five years ago. He still gives guest lectures at various universities in Queensland and Victoria.

Geoff has always had a passion for literature. As a child he came to love a variety of nineteenth and early twentieth century authors. Growing older he also came to enjoy more modern writers over a range of genres. As a student he wrote poetry (which he is now pleased was never published!) and a few political pieces for student magazines.

After graduation, his writing was largely restricted to things related to his work. He has had some 150 technical papers published or presented at conferences around the world and has published multiple technical, humorous and general interest pieces in his company’s client newsletter.

Geoff started writing short fiction only recently but now he is brave enough to submit some of his work to competitions and magazines. Currently he is writing mainly science fiction and humour (well, he thinks it’s funny) with the occasional satire, but hopes to move more into mainstream fiction one day.
